BILLY THE KID IN LA

Thanks to everyone for supporting Billy The Kid In LA! Billy always knew it was just a matter of time before he would hit it big in Hollywood.

I loved your movie. It was very touching. It went beyond a kid and all
his particular problems
(or issues as he liked to say) and moved into a realm where everyone could
identify with the real
pain and awkwardness of growing up and adolescence. How I could feel and
identify with Billy was
the magic of this movie. It was really something special.

What a great film--it seemed to flow better and the edits were a bit
shorter.
Billy should come out with a book on his quotes--he can be so
charming--and
yet he can be quite the opposite.

your film was excellent...that kid just slew me. a
heartbreaking crackup. i especially liked that the film never
specified what was "wrong" with him, like most people would have
presented it as 'here's a quaint example of a quirky child with
aspergers syndrome from a patient and humble family'. but by not
addressing it at all, he becomes so much more than the label of a
diagnosis. i love that.

Hey Chiemi,

It's Patricia, Maclovia's friend. I know you were a little bit overwhelmed
by
the congrats last night, so I just wanted to let you know, again, that I
was
blown away.

You really did an incredible job. Though the doc was wonderful the first
time
around, your final product is amazing. The pace is perfect, the weaving of
the mother's narrative -- so good -- really fantastic!

Unique, humorous, poignant and accessible, not easy to pull off, but I
think
you guys have done it beautifully.

Wishing you the best of luck -- hmmm though I somehow feel you won't need
it
:)

Take care,
Patricia

1) What was your reaction to the movie overall?

My reaction to the movie overall was one of enjoyment and particularly in the category of romantic nostalgia. It reminded me about what the purity of love can inspire in people...and of how love is such a powerful force at 15 (and still is in me.) Unfortunately love, like Santa Claus, is not always what it begins as...and this film reminded me of what it felt like when Santa was real. To say that love does not exist is not my point, but rather its evolution from middle school into adulthood is often a trying journey. Billy's first girlfriend- the story of boy meets girl- was captured brilliantly...and it was that part of the entire story which had the most impact on me.
I found the camera work to be a bit distracting at times, sometimes too close to billy, sometimes awkwardly placed- but Billy's supposed to be awkward not the cameraman. There were a few moments when I felt like the films natural cadence was off, and my attention was diverted because of it...again, perhaps related to the shifty camera work. Some shots were very dark and if the corresponding energy of the scene is missing- it seems like a lapse in the storyline.

2) Please describe the movie in one or two sentences.

A coming of age story about an awkward, mentally unique, quirky, quick-witted but big-hearted, kid of fifteen delivering authentic humor and teenage nostalgia to boot.

3) What about the film do you find marketable or appealing to the public?

The laughs- the quotable moments are a' plenty, as in 'Napoleon Dynamite'- this alone should be bankable.

4) What theme or story line do you find to be the “hook” and would intrigue people to see the film?

See #1

5) Do you feel like you need an explanation at the end for where Billy is now? Do you want to know whether or not he has a condition and if so what it is?

I enjoyed how the story ended, and I did not feel it was necessary to explain Billy's condition, but rather let the audience experience Billy without hearing a scientific diagnosis. If I don't know where Billy is now, I have a feeling I'll find out sooner or later :)

Jennifer:

I have been thinking for the last 2 days about what I could say to you about your movie, and all I can come up with is, AMAZING. I (and the audience ) were truly awestruck at Billy, his amazing Mother, the photography….all of it. (Kudos to this Mother for her patience and attitude towards her son---amazing…..

On a personal note, my sister is mentally handicaped and my Mother is similar to her in so many ways----a very special person)

I have been telling everyone for the last 2 days that if they get the chance, they have to see this movie---it will truly affect their lives.

Thank you for inviting me.

I hope you keep making amazing movies….you are truly gifted.

Paul
